"Just like his last album, Jesse Dangerously collaborates with two Backburner producers, in this case crew coordinator Fresh Kils and Toolshed member Timbuktu, for what is certainly Jesse’s best work to date... If you’re a fan of lyrical MCs and have yet to discover tongue-twisting rapper Jesse Dangerously, now is definitely a good time to start, and Verba Volant is the perfect place." - Read the full review at Exclaim.ca

Inter Alia with Uncle Fester and Dexter Doolittle
  1. Inter Alia
  2. Outfox'd (When Pacifists Attack)
  3. Righteous Badass (Fester's 45s Mix)
  4. The Altogether feat. Bix, Apt, UNIVERSE ARM and Cal

  7. The Prestidigitator
  8. The Force (Ha!)
Inventive but not wimpy hip hop - part early 90s Pete Rock style, part contemporary bangers. Raps about being dope, being a feminist sex god, owning privilege and growing up loving hip hop. Beat-making duties are split evenly between Backburner cornerstones Uncle Fester and Dexter Doolittle, with three new songs and one remix each. Guest MC's include Apt and Mr Bix of Alpha Flight, Cal, UNIVERSE ARM of The Crimson Tides and the Ghost of Jay Bizzy.

  13. Naked Branch Musings
  14. Exit (en masse)
This is a loose collection of songs that were written and completed in 2001 and 2002, between the final recording sessions for Origami and the titular Backburner tour. Apart from several dozen intimate homies yelling "Get Fresh" on the number one club hit of that name, the lone guest MC is SJ the Wordburglar on "Strictly Do This". Scratches are mostly provided by Bad DJ Budget Cuts, however a couple of really GOOD scratches are the work of Uncle Fester. The songs range in subject from hip hop bragadoccio to babies, public education and financial instability. Oh but none of it's WACK though! The production is fully based in digging, chopping, looping and layering, and the rhymes are intricate, personal, cheeky and impassioned.

This record represents almost seven years of very, very passive artistic struggle. From tracks that came just a little too late for Jesse's first cassette in 1997 to re-recorded versions of the tracks that appeared on his insanely popular MP3.com webpage in 1999 and 2000, from the not-quite controversial fiction of a teenage homosexual sympathizer to just about the only known rap song in history that's counted in 5/4 time, from slow and contemplative numbers to absolute lightning speed ingenuity... this record would have ruled your face off if it came out when it was really finished. Even finally appearing as it did in the fall of 2004, certain timeless classics such as "Trouble Brewing (1979)" are still demanded at live shows, and most of Jesse's teenage pretentions and presumptions fail to entirely embarrass him today. The truth is that only suckers don't buy this album. I'm sorry but that's the truth.

The ImF Ride b/w Even Exist (As In: "We Don't...")
  1. The ImF Ride
  2. Even Exist (As In: "We Don't...")
Shortly before everyone moved away from everywhere, three young men of Backburner decided to be a group and to make some songs as a trio. They were Thesis Sahib (London, ON), MC Frank Deluxe (St John's, NL) and yours famous truly, Jesse D (Halifax, NS). MCFD and I tried to work a little magic on his MPC2000 and that became the beat for the A-side, and the B-side was produced entirely by me in Impulse Tracker 2 for DOS. We wrote some excellent raps and DJ Dubble threw on some scratches and we convinced UNIVERSE ARM to front half the cost of manufacturing the vinyl. I hope one day we make him that money back! These songs are mega slamming. Can you afford to not bump them right now?
